• George Mason University Center for the Arts

    The Sphinx Virtuosi is one of the nation’s most dynamic professional chamber orchestras, comprised of 18 top Black and Latinx classical soloists.  This touring season’s program will feature Tommy Mesa playing Jessie Montgomery’s new cello concerto and the music of Valerie Coleman, Florence Price, Xavier Foley, Samuel Coleridge Taylor, and Ginastera.

    The Colburn School will host a three-day Sphinx Virtuosi residency, to include public performances and educational and community engagement activities. Sphinx Virtuosi musicians will lead programs and perform alongside students in the Colburn Community School, Music Academy, and Conservatory of Music.
